The license renewal fee is what you pay TDLR to renew your license on time. It is separate from — and in addition to — the cost of your CE course. Current on-time renewal fees by trade:
- Cosmetology and barber: $50 for all individual practitioner types (operator, Class A barber, esthetician, manicurist, specialist licenses) — a flat fee effective September 1, 2023
- Electrician: $45 for Master and Master Sign Electricians; $30 for Journeyman, Journeyman Industrial, Journeyman Lineman, and Journeyman Sign licenses; $20 for Apprentice, Maintenance Electrician, and Residential Wireman licenses
- HVAC/ACR: $65 for contractors (Class A and Class B); $20 for registered technicians and $35 for certified technicians
Fees are paid directly to TDLR through TDLR Online Services when you submit your renewal, and renewal fees are non-refundable. Dual license holders (for example, barber plus cosmetology) renew each license separately with its own fee.
Budget for both pieces of the renewal: the TDLR fee above, plus your CE course — $22.95 at OnlineTexasCE for any trade.
What it means for your renewal
Renewing on time is the cheapest your license will ever be. Once your license expires, late fees apply — $75 to $100 for cosmetology/barber, 1.5x to 2x the standard fee for electricians, and $97.50 to $130 for ACR contractors. Complete your CE early so the fee you pay is the on-time one.
