Your license expiration date is the day your current license term ends. All TDLR trade licenses expire on the anniversary of the issuance date — not your birthday, and not a fixed calendar date shared by everyone in your trade. Cosmetology and barber licenses run 2 years from issuance; electrician and ACR licenses run 1 year.
Two things have to happen before this date:
- Complete your CE hours. Continuing education must be finished before you submit your renewal — and for annually renewing licenses, the hours must be completed during the license period being renewed
- Submit your renewal and pay the fee through TDLR Online Services
TDLR emails a reminder roughly 60 days before expiration, but the date is your responsibility either way. You can confirm your exact expiration date any time by looking up your license — our TDLR license search shows your license status, expiration date, and the CE courses TDLR has on file for you.
What it means for your renewal
Anniversary-based expiration means your renewal clock is personal — coworkers with the same license type expire on different dates. Check your date now, set a reminder for 60 days out, and knock out the CE early; OnlineTexasCE courses are self-paced with 180 days to complete, so there's no reason to be racing the deadline.
