Beyond approving providers, TDLR approves each individual CE course — and assigns every approved course its own course approval number. To get a course approved, the provider submits an application with a timed topic outline and the complete course materials; once approved, the content cannot be changed without resubmitting for approval.
Course approvals have a dated approval window: an approval is valid for one year, after which the provider must file again. Each approval period therefore carries its own course number. Like the provider number, the course number must appear in the provider's advertising.
When you finish a course, your completion is reported to TDLR under the course approval number valid on your completion day, and that number appears in your TDLR CE course history. This matters for the duplicate-credit rule: TDLR tracks which approved courses you have already been credited for in a renewal period.

What it means for your renewal
You don't need to memorize course numbers, but they are how TDLR connects your completion to an approved course. If a renewal question ever comes up, the course number on your certificate and in TDLR's records is the proof that the hours came from a properly approved course.
