The esthetician/manicurist combination license is a single TDLR credential covering both the skin care scope of an esthetician (facials, chemical peels, hair removal, makeup) and the nail scope of a manicurist (manicures, pedicures, artificial nail systems). It exists for professionals whose work spans both.
The training requirement is approximately 800 hours at a TDLR-licensed school — meaningfully less than the 1,350 combined hours of earning the 750-hour esthetician and 600-hour manicurist licenses separately.
Because it is one license, it renews once:
- One $50 renewal fee every 2 years
- One 4-hour CE requirement per cycle (2 hours once you have held the license 15+ years)
- One expiration date to track instead of two
The CE itself is the same TDLR-approved 4-hour course every barbering and cosmetology subtype takes — sanitation, human trafficking prevention, and elective topics that span both skin and nail work. There is no combo-specific course to find, and nothing extra to complete for holding the wider scope.
What it means for your renewal
If you currently hold separate esthetician and manicurist licenses, each renews separately with its own $50 fee — though since September 1, 2025, one CE course satisfies both. The combination license takes that a step further: one renewal, one fee, one CE deadline.
Either way the coursework is identical — a TDLR-approved 4-hour course, ours at $22.95 with no final exam.
